This Sunday at Matsuri, we will be celebrating a dear community friend, Nancy Uyemura, for her recognition as a Nisei Week Pioneer at this year’s Nisei Week Festival. Nancy Uyemura is an artist and a light of the Little Tokyo community who can be found at many community gatherings, the @sustainablelittletokyo Little Tokyo compost bin, making puppets with SLT arts action, and lending a helping hand to her neighbors and friends.
Her art is on display in Little Tokyo on 3rd Street, at the entrance to the @ltsc.cdc (“Harmony, 1996), in the Little Tokyo Public Library and at Azay ❤️.
Sea Train Quartet will set the mood with a jazz set inspired by Black American Music. Their set focuses on 1940s–1960s bebop and hard bop, styles most notably present during Little Tokyo’s Bronzeville era.
Based in Orange County and Los Angeles California, Seatrain quartet was founded by Josh Ting (Guitar), Ameer Zhowandai (Guitar), and Chris Villarino (Drums) around February 2024.
