Hanami (flower viewing) is the japanese tradition of enjoying the beauty of the cherry blossoms (sakura) and to celebrate the rich colors of spring, usually seen outside of Japan in flower fields or in our own backyards.

Since the bento is meant to be eaten outside, skewered foods (yakitori-chicken and grn onions, hanami dango-colorful mochi balls) and finger foods (edamame, tawara onigiri (rice bag shaped rice balls with purple shiso and salted sesame), octopus shaped weenie. To complete the bento, pickled cabbage with shio konbu ( salted seaweed) and Japanese style potato salad, which we all know as a picnic food, is included.
